Garden City - Mr. Jacob L. Bazemore, 88, a longtime resident of Garden City, died surrounded by his family on May 6, 2010 after an eight-month illness.

Mr. Bazemore was born August 27, 1922, in Clyo and graduated from Savannah High School. Prior to his retirement he served as Master Mechanic at Stone Container and in the Navy during WWII in the SW Pacific. He was awarded the Purple Heart and Presidential Unit Citation for his service on PT boat 327. He was the son of the late Merrill A. Bazemore and Laura Weaver Bazemore, husband of the late Marjorie Steadwell Bazemore and the late Katherine Griffin Bazemore and brother of the late French Bazemore Parker.

Mr. Bazemore is survived by his children, Linda (Bill) Clark of Albany, Larry (Denise) Bazemore of Garden City, Merrill (Randall) Hamrick of Fayetteville, N.C.; stepdaughters Libby Griffin Harden (Aubrey) of Port Wentworth, Colleen Griffin Thompson (Vince) of Port Wentworth; 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; a sister, Louise Bazemore Hayes of Jacksonville, FL; and several nieces and nephews.

Burial: Hillcrest Abbey East Cemetery on Wheaton Street in Savannah.
