Mrs. Katherine Griffin Bazemore
Garden City - Mrs. Katherine Griffin Bazemore, 82, died on February 12, 2007 at Memorial Health University Medical Center. Mrs. Katherine was born in Ludowici but lived in Chatham County for the past 60 years. She retired from the Corp. of Engineers. She was a member of the Garden City United Methodist Church. She attended the John Barnes Sunday School Class. She was a member of the UMW. She was also a former member of the First Baptist Church of Port Wentworth where she taught Sunday School, participated in Happy Hearts, and the WMU. However, she found her true calling in Homebound Ministries and served within this ministry at both churches. She faithfully visited the sick and elderly church members at the hospital or in their homes every week. She took great joy in this service and brought love, hope, smiles and friendship to many hearts. Survivors include her husband, Jacob L. Bazemore of Garden City; her children and spouses: Libby and Bubba Harden of Port Wentworth, Denise and Larry Bazemore of Garden City, Colleen and Vince Thompson of Port Wentworth; step-children and their spouses: Linda and Bill Clark of Albany, and Merry and Randy Hamrick of Fayetteville, NC; grandchildren: Tony and Meredith Harden, Audrey and John Blair, Amy Harden, Barry and Carrie Bazemore, Brent and Michelle Bazemore, Trent and Jeanine Thompson and Tiffany Thompson; step-grandchildren: Kathrine Clark, Chris and Melanie Clark, Philip Hamrick, Molly and Ken Hales and Rebekah Hamrick; ten great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Earnest L. Griffin. Visitation: 5:30-8 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home. Funeral: 2 p.m. on Wednesday at Garden City United Methodist Church. Mrs. Katherine will lie in state from 1-2 p.m. at the Church. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Abbey East Cemetery on Wheaton Street.
