George Washington Montgomery was born September 2, 1875 in Hancock County, Tenn., and departed this life, November 30, 1946 at Kilcakitat General Hospital in White Salmon, Washington at thw age of 67 years, 2 months and 28 days.
He came from Tennessee to Texas in 1900 and in 1902 filed on a claim in Roger Mills County, Oklahoma and later married Mattie E. Chandler June 14, 1903 at Seymour, Texas and moved to his claim in November of 1903 and resided there until December 24, 1945 when he moved to White Salmon, Washington.
To this union were born 13 children, 2 of whom preceded him in death at infancy, Willie Jewel and Elmer Leon. He leaves to mourn his passing his wife. Mrs. Mattie E. Montgomery of White Salmon, Washington, 6 sons and five daughters.Johnnie Hugh of Strong City, Oklahoma; George Horace of Milwaukee, Oregon; Bonnie Howard of Milwaukee, Oregon; Lee Homer of White Salmon, Washington; Charlie Vivion of White Salmon, Washington; Louella Matilda Lantz of Strong City, Oklahoma; Mattie Amanda Willing of Stevenson, Washington; Genore Evelyn White of Strong City, Oklahoma; Maybell Clara White of White Salmon; and Mary Helen
Montgomery also of White Salmon, Washington.
He also leaves one sister, Amanda Buchannen of Dainia, Fla. His parenets three brothers and three sisters preceded him in death.
He was a good husband and father; a loyal neighbor, always ready to lend a helping hand and a friend to everyone he knew.
Burial was in the Silent Home cemetery at Roll, Oklahoma, under the direction of the Tunnard Funeral Home. Rev. C.B. Reneau, pastor of the First Baptist Church, Cheyenne, officiated at the services.
Funeral services were held at White Salmon, Washington with Bro. J.I. Rude officiating. Gardners Funeral Home at 2 P.M. Monday, December 2, 1946 in White Salmon, Washington.
Before Mr. Montgomery suddenly took a turn for the worse he expressed his faith and confident in God, in the Bible and in prayer.
