He was baptized as Bennie Riemen (Raymond) Monson on Nov 6, 1898 with his sponsors being Mr. & Mrs. Ole Christianson, and Mr. and Mrs. Edward Elefson. His birth date in the church records is August 30, 1898.

It is not known why he adapted to B. C. Monson - that is what he used on his WWII draft registration. His WWI Draft registration is noted as Bennie Raymon Monson.
