Burkes, 73, died Wednesday, April 28, 2010 at UAB Medical Center in Birmingham.
She was a legal secretary, working many years for Clayton Lewis and later for Clayton Taylor Lewis Law Firm and also Laurel G. Weir Law Firm. She retired from Wal-Mart in July 2009.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lige Christopher Killen and Lois Elsie Winstead Killen; brother, Rayford J. Killen; and husband, Arden T. Burkes.
Survivors include sister, Annie Killen Dearing of Union and a host of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were David Dearing, Tommy Dearing, Paul Dearing, Jonathan Dearing, David Alexander and Eric Alexander.
