S. W. Avera has a CSA pension application on line under Colquitt Co. in the GA Archives. He gives his birth as 5 Jan 1836 in Wilkerson Co, Ga and says he enlisted in Savannah G in May 1862. He served with Company E of the 54th GA regiment. In Feb and March 1865 he was sent on detail by his Lt. Griffin so was not with his unit at the surrender. Proof of his death on 30 Oct 1924 is included in the pages. See GA Pension record 178651-00741 in the GA Archives to read his own words and those of witnesses.
