He moved to Decatur County in 1943 and graduated from Sandcreek High School in 1953. He was the owner of Baltus Electronics, Inc. and retired from Cummins Engine Company in 1969 after 17 years of service. He had farmed until 1960. He married Frances Irene Rubbe September 29, 1957 in Greensburg and she survives.
He was a member of Mt Aerie Baptist Church, Decatur County Amateur Radio Association, Decatur County Emergency Management Agency. He had been associated with the Letts Volunteer Fire Department for many years. He received the Ray Bentley Fire Service award from the Decatur County Fireman's Association in 1998. His hobbies included fishing, gardening, "Ham" radios and spending time with his family.
In addition to his wife, Frances, he is survived by two sons, Byron (Pam) Baltus and Rob (Tina) Baltus, both of Greensburg; 3 grandchildren, Jason (Jenn) Baltus, Kirsten Baltus, Clarissa Baltus, all of Greensburg; 1 great-granddaughter, Addison Baltus, Greensburg; two sisters, Geneva Moffat, Plant City, Florida and Alice Silvers, Evansville, Indiana; three brothers, Joseph Frank (Janet) Baltus, Greensburg, William R (Mary B) Baltus, Columbus, and Ronald (Cyndi) Grace, Monticello. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services Friday, June 10, 2005 at 10:00 a.m. at Bass & Gasper Funeral Home with the Rev. David A. Scaggs officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Aerie Cemetery.
