William R. "Bill" Baltus, 76, of Columbus, passed away Sunday, June 22, 2014 at his residence in Summerfield, Florida.

He was born Oct. 3, 1937 in Madeira, Ohio, the son of Pieter Josef and Myrtle (Wilson) Baltus. He was born in Ohio and moved to Decatur County in 1943 and graduated from Sandcreek High School in 1955.

He lived in Colorado from 1981 to 1991 and had been a Columbus resident since 1991.

Mr. Baltus traveled around the world with his employment at Cummins Engine Company; he retired in 2004 after 45 years of service. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Columbus, the Golden K Kiwanis Club and the Decatur County Amateur Radio Club.

He volunteered at the Love Chapel and at fish fries for the Letts Fire Department. He served on the board of directors for the Mt. Aerie Cemetery Association and served in the Indiana National Guard.

He was married on Sept. 5, 1981 in Littleton, Colorado to Mary Belle Parish, and she survives. Also surviving are daughters Jennifer (Roger Satterfield) Baltus of Columbus, Dianna (Ron) Moore of Westport, Becky Glenn of Tifton, Georgia; sons, Mike (Suzanne) Baltus of Littleton, Colorado and Jeffery (Gayle) McIntyre of Greensburg; sisters, Geneva Moffat of Florida and Alice Silvers of Evansville; his 13 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Bert and Joseph Baltus. The funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 28, at Bass & Gasper Funeral Home with Pastor Dan Cash officiating.

Burial will follow at Mt. Aerie Cemetery in Letts.

A time of visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, June 27, at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made through the funeral home to the American Cancer Society or the Golden K Kiwanis Club.
