Richard Albert Smith, 73, of Manti, Utah, passed away Jan. 26, 2008, in Manti.
He was born Nov. 18, 1934, in Orem, Utah, to Albert LaVon and Dorothy "Dot" Hone Smith. He married Faye Shumway on April 2, 1956, in Woodruff, Ariz. Their marriage was later solemnized in Los Angeles at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Temple on Oct. 30, 1982. She preceded him in death on May 16, 2006.

Dick was a man of courage and strength who loved the outdoors. His passions in life were fishing and hunting. He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather as well as a great teacher and hard worker. Dick's life was filled with service to others. He and his wife, Faye, served in the Michigan Detroit Mission from June 2003 to June 2004. He was an auto mechanic in the Army and honorably released from service after two tours during the Vietnam era. He will be loved and missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by his children, Timothy Dale Smith of Manti, Utah, Connie Kaye (husband Donald) Gardner of Snowflake, Ariz., Rodney Allen Smith of Ventura, and Crystal Alvarez of Santa Paula; grandchildren, Cody Allen Smith of Hayward, Wis., and Tristan Nathaniel Alvarez of Santa Paula; sisters Beverly Austin of Orem, Utah, Vonda (husband Dave) Kaighn of Magna, Utah, and Francis Reynolds of Heber City, Utah; and sister-in-law, Sandra Smith of American Fork, Utah.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Faye; sisters Joy (husband Rick) Poncello, Naomi (husband Carl) Rasmussen; brother, Bill Smith; brothers-in-law, Joe Austin and Farrell Reynolds.

Friends may call from 6 to 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 1 and again from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 2 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Tabernacle in Manti. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 2 also at the tabernacle. Burial will be in Manti Cemetery with military rites by the Manti American Legion Post No. 31.
