Joy was preceded in death by her parents; grandparents; daughter, Pamela; and granddaughter, Mercedes. Joy was very active in the community and made many trips to Capitol Hill advocating for the disabled and ensured through her actions and courage that the scales tipped in favor of those on Medicaid having a decent living allowance. For personal reasons, Joy was also very active in the HIV/AIDS community the last few years of her life, and spoke out on issues affecting those with HIV/AIDS. She gave a voice to many who did not have one. Joy wished to be cremated and her ashes will be scattered over places she loved. A family memorial service will be held May 6th, at the home of her sister, Beverly Austin. The family wishes to extend a very heartfelt thanks to Odyssey Hospice for their caring and compassion of Joy and her family. In lieu of flowers, Joy wanted donations sent to the Utah AIDS Foundation or your favorite charity.
