Rev. J. C. Hearne, 65, well-known preacher and evangelist of the Methodist Protestant church, died early Friday at his residence at 204 South Third street. He had been ill for six weeks.

Rev. Hearne had been for the past 30 years actively engaged in evangelistic work throughout Northeast Louisiana. At the time of his death he was assistant pastor of Stone Avenue Methodist Protestant church of Monroe.

He leaves his widow and the following children: Arthur, Roy, and Morris Hearne, all of Monroe, Lester Hearne of Sterlington, Dwight Hearne of Baton Rouge, Mrs. O. A. Griffith of Baton Rouge and Mrs. L. E. Burton and Mrs. S. L. Duck of Ruston. One brother, John Hearne of Chatham, and a sister, Mrs. Mollie Mayfield of West Monroe, also survive.

The funeral is to be held at the Methodist Protestant church in Grayson at 10 a.m. Saturday. Rev. Ira Yeager, pastor of the Stone Avenue church of Monroe, is to officiate, assisted by Rev. E. O. Hearne of Chatham. Interment is to take place at Grayson in Welcome Home cemetery.

The body will be taken overland from the Davis-Lawhead funeral home, leaving there at 8:30 a.m.
