Sterling "Corky" Hicks, 79, of Amarillo died Monday, May 3, 2010.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors Ivy Chapel, 2800 Paramount Blvd., with the Rev. Claude Tugwell officiating. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery.

Corky was born Dec. 4, 1930, in Hardeman County to Ira and Lillie Hicks. He married Wilma Fields on Aug. 25, 1954, in Hardeman County. He was a teacher and dorm parent at Cal Farley's Boys Ranch for almost 10 years and then worked at Sears in Amarillo for more than 25 years.

Corky was a member of Bell Avenue Baptist Church, the Moose Lodge and a 50-year member of Channing Masonic Lodge.

Corky always enjoyed life to the fullest and his happiest moments were spent with his family and friends. He will be greatly missed.

He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers.

Survivors include his wife, Wilma Hicks of Amarillo; a daughter, Barbara Anderson of Houston; a son, David Hicks and wife Kim of Amarillo; a sister, Myna Potts and husband John of Chillicothe; four grandchildren, Kristin Smith and husband Jeff, Amanda Hicks, Melissa Leyva and husband Christopher and Justin Hicks; and a great-grandson, Ashley Kekoa Smith.

The family suggests memorials be to American Heart Association, 2514 82nd St., Suite B, Lubbock, TX 79423.
