Ralph DeVoy Long, prominent farmer who lived for many years southwest of Wellington, died in Collingsworth General Hospital at 8:20 a.m. Friday, July 3. Seventy-four years of age, he had been seriously ill for a number of months.

Mr. Long spent most of his life here.

He was especially active in community and farm affairs and in his church, First Baptist, where he was ordained a deacon at the age of 35. He belonged to the Farm Bureau.

He graduated from Wellington High School in 1929, where he was an outstanding athlete and president of his class.

In recent years, he was active in the Ex-Students Association.

Born January 27, 1908 at Ector, Mr. Long was the son of J.B. and Lorena Bell Long. The family came here in 1916.

He was married to Miss Lutie Benson on August 13, 1929 at Hollis.

Funeral services were conducted Monday, July 5, at 2 p.m. in First Baptist Church, with the Rev. Randall Scott of McGregor and the Rev. Stanley Hughes, pastor, officiating. Burial was in Memorial Gardens under the direction of Guy Owens Funeral Home.

Pallbearers were Glenn Warrick, Hardy Wright, Ralph Owens, Bo McKinney, Walter Spear of Amarillo and Alvin Horton.

Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Lutie Long; one daughter, Mrs. Roland Jenkins and a son, Benson Long, all of Wellington, three sisters, Mrs. Darline Cook of Victoria, Mrs. Dewey Templeton of Lubbock, and Mrs. Annie Carson. there are 5 grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
