Martha Caroline Inman was the third child of Joshua and Mary Inman. A marriage bond was issued for William Tillett Massey and Martha Caroline Inman on October 30, 1846. They had eight children. In the 1860 census, their family is living next door to her brother, James Anderson Inman, and his family in the Forks of the Pigeon in Haywood Co., NC.
During the Civil War, Tillett served in Thomas's Legion. Martha Caroline was left with the children at home. She was not listed in the 1870 census. Tillett Massey was listed in TN with some of the children. According to estate records for Joshua Inman, sometime before 1872 Caroline Inman Massey had died. Her children inherited her share of her father's estate.
