Ausherman, Ernest R., 85, of Bella Vista, Ark., formerly of Wichita, died Sunday, June 23, 2002 at his home. Graveside service 10 a.m. Friday, June 28, 2002 in Wichita.

Mr. Ausherman was born Oct. 24, 1916 in Elmont, Kan., to Eppie and Margaret Price Ausherman.

He graduated from Kansas State University in 1938 with a degree in vocation al education. In the years between his graduation and World War II, he taught vocational agriculture in Kansas.

He served in the Navy during World War II as a deck officer aboard the ship, The City of Dalhart, and he was recalled for duty in the Korean War. He was in the Navy Reserve in Wichita and active in VFW.

Following World War II, he was employed in the Civil Service with the Veterans Administration and the Postal Service. At the time of his retirement from Civil Service, he was president of the Wichita Federal Executives Association.

Since retiring to Bella Vista in 1976, he has been active in many organiza tions. He organized and served as president of both the Bella Vista Mens Garden Club and the Bella Vista Crime Watch program. He also served as president of the Bella Vista Fly Tyers Club and the Bella Vista Betterment Committee. He was a member of the Bella Vista First United Methodist Church and was active in the United Methodist Mens group. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Bentonville.

Survivors: wife of 61 years, Beulah; son, Larry Ausherman; daughter-in-law, Amy Sproul; grandchild, Sarah Ausherman all of Placitas, N.M.; brother and sister-in-law, Arthur and Rachel Ausherman of Columbia, Mo.; sister, Ruth Ausherman of Topeka; sister-in-law, Jane Leonard of Aiken, S.C.
