John Milton Bridges was born on Wednesday, November 4, 1868 in North Carolina to parents Martin Crowder Bridges (1846-1931) and Charity Emiline Kilpatrick Bridges (1840-1896), the oldest of their eight children. His younger siblings were:

Josephine Narcissus (1869-1958)
Martha Jane (1871-1949)
Lydia Ann (1874-1973)
Pascal Henderson (1876-1963)
Polly Emiline (1878-1966)
Burlin Crowder (1881-1923)
Isaac Napolean (1883-1977)

His middle name "Milton," which was his preferred name, was the middle name of his maternal grandfather, Elias Milton Kilpatrick, Sr. Milton would marry three times over the course of his life: first, on August 21, 1887 in Van Buren County, Arkansas to Faimy Bruce, who died during childbirth in 1899. (Milton's sister, Josephine Narcissus, wed Faimy's brother, James Alford Bruce; and his uncle, John Marion Bridges, wed Faimy's older sister, Millie Corolyn.) Milton and Faimy produced five children during their almost 12 years of marriage: William Thomas, Martha Arizona, Mollie Emiline, Rollen Crowder, and Maimy. All five children are linked below.

His second wife, Lillie J. Martin, was 14 years his junior and pregnant with another man's child when Milton married her on September 16, 1900 in Searcy County, Arkansas. The couple was only married for a matter of months because Lillie died in childbirth in 1901, as did the child.

After the back-to-back tragedies of his first two wives, Milton left Arkansas for North Carolina (near the Tennessee border), where he stayed and raised a crop while trying to put his life back together. His children remained behind in Arkansas in the care of various siblings. It was during this time away that he met his future third wife.

At age 34, Milton married Rose Ann Burger on September 26, 1903 in Searcy County, Arkansas. Two of Milton's sisters (Martha and Lydia) had married the first cousins of Rose Ann (William Pinkney Walker and Memory Andrew Walker). Rose Ann was about three years younger than Milton but had been a "spinster" until marrying Milton the day after her 32nd birthday. She (and much of her family) relocated from Tennessee back to Arkansas with Milton for their marriage, and the couple produced four children: James Herby, Gertie Mae, Oma Lu, and Beulah Amenda. All four children are linked below.

Milton and Rose Ann were married for 32 years until his passing in 1936 at age 67. He was interred at Zion Hill Cemetery where his two previous wives were buried, and where his widow would also be laid to rest in 1945.

In addition to his three wives, much of Milton's immediate family surrounds him at Zion Hill Cemetery, including his parents, his uncle John Marion Bridges (and family), sisters Martha Jane Bridges Walker and Lydia Ann Bridges Walker (and families), sons Rollen Crowder and James Herby, and daughter Maimy.
