R. A. Bennett Funeral Services Held Monday

Funeral services were held Monday for Richard A. Bennett, who passed away at his home in Hedrick, Saturday afternoon. Mr. Bennett, who was known to his many friends as "Dick", had spent his entire life in this community. Following his retirement from a farm near Hedrick over thirty years ago, he served as custodian for the Hedrick school system. For the past twenty years he has been inactive other than to look after his farming interests.
Mr. Bennett served as a member of the Board of Directors of the Hedrick Savings Bank for several years and headed the group as president during a part of that time.
The following obituary was read at the service.
Richard Alvin Bennett was born August 21, 1869, the youngest child of Richard W. Bennett and Mary Jane Lyons Bennett. He was born three and one-half miles northwest of Hedrick, where he lived until Dec. 1, 1919. At this time he moved to Hedrick where he spent the rest of his life.
On Feb. 14, 1899, he was married to Susan C. Harper, who survives. He also leaves four children: Frank H. Bennett of Ottumwa; Mrs. Ruth C. Mathews of Winfield; Mrs. Beulah White of Spokane, Washington; and Miss Mildred Bennett of Minneapolis, Minn., seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, also one sister, Mrs. Ida Meier.
Mr. Bennett was preceded in death by two daughters, Katie and Agnes and two sons, Harry and Ralph.
Funeral services were held Monday afternoon, February 11, at the Methodist Church in Hedrick, with the Rev. C. B. Rayhill in charge and burial at the Brooks cemetery.
