Ranell Johnson Whitney, age 68, passed away on Tuesday, April 13, 2010.


He was born June 18, 1941 in American Fork, Utah, the son of Frank and Vilate Whitney.


He graduated from Springville High School in 1959. He also attended two years of school at the College of Southern Utah in Cedar City. He married Karen Nielson on December 28, 1962 in Springville, Utah.


Ranell worked in construction with his uncles and various companies for many years. Later he built custom homes in the Utah County area. Throughout the years he built many homes for resale and moved his family often.


Ranell enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, hunting, and camping with his family. He loved to travel, his favorite place was Alaska and enjoyed a lot of nice trips there with his wife. He enjoyed all types of sports, especially BYU and the Jazz. He enjoyed prospecting, metal detecting, coin collecting, socializing with friends, and spending time with his family.


He is survived by his wife Karen, six children, Susan (Tim) Wyatt, Lorna (Mitch) Loomis, Brenda Whitney, Eric (Janell) Whitney, Jennifer (Darren) Roach, Melinda Whitney, thirteen grandchildren, and one great-grandchild with one more on the way, two brothers, and two sisters. Preceded in death by his parents and a nephew.


Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, April 17, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. in the Spanish Fork Seventeenth Ward Chapel, 750 South 1550 East, Spanish Fork, Utah. A viewing will be held for family one hour prior to the services.
Interment will be in the Springville Evergreen Cemetery.
