Luther Christian Iverson, 77, of Silver Bay, Minn., died Monday, Feb. 20, 2006 at home. He was born May 28, 1928, to Rev. Christian M. and Justine (Anderson) Iverson in Lemond, Minn. He lived and attended schools in the state of Washington, Laporte, Minn., and graduated from Bemidji High School in 1946. He attended Augsburg College and Bemidji State University. He was a member of the Minnesota State Guard and served as a combat engineer in the U.S. Army from 1950-1952. He married Orla Hopland on June 6, 1951, in Cass Lake, Minn. On Aug. 8, 1953, Luther began his 30 years of service for Reserve Mining Company, retiring as the Assistant Superintendent. Luther was one of the original members of the Silver Bay Fire Department, and later retired as the Assistant Fire Chief. He was a Scout Master in the Boy Scouts of America, receiving the Silver Scout and Scouters Key awards, and an active member of Sychar Lutheran Church in Silver Bay. His hobbies included woodworking and traveling throughout the USA. He is preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Deborah K. Hudson; and grandson, Robert M. Muehlberger. Luther is survived by his loving wife, Orla; son, Don (Diane) Iverson of Woodbury, Minn.; daughter, Judy (Mike) Muehlberger of Duluth; son-in-law, Ray Hudson of Silver Bay; sisters, Julie (Ben) Dienstein of San Rafael, Calif., and Arlene (Everett) Button of Chico, Calif.; six grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
