Born Emma Ruperd on March 23, 1918 in Roscommon, MI. she was a daughter of the late Alfred Ruperd and Zadie (Wittenmyer) Ruperd. Emma moved to Newberry as an infant and has been an area resident ever since. In 1942 Emma was a Blair Dealer, and in 1969 became an ordained non-denominational minister. She was an associate pastor of the Dollarville House of Prayer with the late Rev. Wright. Following his retirement she took over pastoral duties at the church. In 1971, Emma became employed at the Luce County Annex in the housekeeping dept. She retired from there in 1986 as head of the housekeeping dept. In 1980 she ran Emma's Garage Sales, a summer long venture to sell her and her friends homemade quilts and Afghans. She did this venture for several years. Emma also was a vegetable gardener who sold her produce to area markets.
Emma married Lawrence Dumas in 1934 and he preceded her in death in 1979. Also preceding her in death are her parents, and her brother Edward Ruperd and her sisters Mildred Goodwin and Betty Durga.
Survivors included sons and daughters-in-law Clarence (Sheri) Dumas of Newberry; Lawrence (Rose) Dumas of the Soo, and her daughter and son-in-law Sharon (Francis "Punk") Stephenson also from the Soo; 9 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and her siblings: Calvin Ruperd of Newberry; Alfreda Buck of Newberry; and Luella Libby of Pickford.
