Alfreda C. Buck, 96, formerly of Newberry, Michigan, died Monday morning April 5, 2010 at the Mackinac Straits Long Term Care Facility in St. Ignace where she had been residing the past six years.

Born Alfreda Ruperd December 2, 1913 in Roscommon, daughter of the late Alfred Ruperd and Zadie (Wittenmyer) Ruperd, Alfreda moved to Newberry at a young age and had been a lifelong Eastern Upper Peninsula resident. For several decades, Afreda held several employments in the restaurant industry and formerly owned and operated Freda's Coffee Shop in Newberry. She was a devout Christian and was a longtime member of the Newberry Pentecostal Tabernacle Church and Living Water Assembly of God Church, both of Newberry. Her hobbies included crocheting and embroidering.

In addition to her parents, Alfreda was preceded by her first husband Carl Olson, a prominent commercial fisherman in St. Ignace and her second husband, Floyd Buck, former pastor of the Newberry Pentecostal Tabernacle Church; daughter Harriet Foster; great-grandsons Bradley Olson and Mathew Wood; siblings George, Lawrence, Edward and Carl Ruperd, Mildred Goodwin, Betty Durga, Mary Ruperd and Emma Dumas.

Survivors included her children Lewis (Winnifred) Olson of Tavares, FL, Irene (Robert) Heywood of St. Ignace and Rachael (Donald) Wright of Newberry; 12 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren and 17 great-great-grandchildren; siblings Calvin Ruperd of Newberry and Luella Libby of Pickford.
