~ Obituary of Clarinda Maddox Scott ~
Published December 1, 1830 in the Alexandria Gazette

DIED.
In Prince William County, VA on the 19th
November 1830, a result of consumption, Mrs. Clarinda Scott in the 56th year of her age, formerly a resident of this town, and the relict of Jesse Scott, for many years a merchant in Dumfries.
She was a pious profesor of Religion 35 years, and found her confidence in the Saviour, upon whom she relied in youth and after life, a strong support in her last moments.
The writer of this humble tribute to her memory, and those who knew her well, have much cause to mourn her departure, although from a world of suffering to a habitation with Angels on high; for her heart was ever ready to sympathise with the unfortunate and distressed, and her hand was open, to the latest period of her life, to relieve the needy; and to this the grateful hearts of the poor, and the widow and orphan, who she remembered even in her last bequest, will respond.

Daughter of Ignatius and Sarah (Gray) Maddox. Wife of Jesse Scott, mother to William.
