DEENIHAN, Jeanne - 85, passed away peacefully in her home in Sonoma on August 6, 2003. Jeanne was born August 13, 1917, in Freeport, MI., the daughter of Ralph R. Kenyon and Winifred Leary Kenyon. Jeanne is survived by her husband of 53 years Charles Deenihan, of Sonoma; and her sister Avis Kenyon Loomer, of Nova Scotia. She was the beloved mother of Jill (James) Kamahele, Beth Marie (Tom Crystle) Deenihan, William (Maria Elena Gil) Deenihan, Michael (Denise Halbe) Deenihan, Susan Deenihan, and Patrick (Diane) Deenihan. She was the idolized grandmother of Haili Kamahele, Anea (David) Botton, Luke and Ian Deenihan, Crista Piccinotti, Adam Thomison, Erin and Allison Lee, and great granddaughter Carena Piccinotti. In 1949, Jeanne moved to Sonoma to accept a position under the chief medical officer at the Sonoma Developmental Center. Jeanne continued working within the medical community of Sonoma Valley as a transcriber at the Sonoma Valley Hospital, and also at Marin General Hospital and the Petaluma Hospital. Jeanne's greatest joys were her family, literature and the visual and performing arts. She was featured professionally in travel journals, and had recently completed a novel, which will be published posthumously. During her years in Sonoma, she was on the board of the Sonoma Community Center and served as president of the St. Francis Solano Parents Club. She was a loyal and generous supporter of the cultural development in Sonoma Valley, especially in the field of dance. Jeanne's acute sense of humor generated a huge circle of friends of all ages. Her children called her Mom; to almost everyone else she was known as "Grandma." A Memorial Service will be held Tuesday, August 19, 2003 at 11:30 a.m. at St. Francis Solano Church, 300 West Napa Street in Sonoma. Private inurnment. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Jeanne's honor can be made to the Hospice of Marin, Valley of the Moon Team, 735 Broadway, Sonoma, CA 95476. Or for book donations for "The Wheelbarrow" book project can be mailed to or dropped off in care of State Farm Insurance, 725 Broadway, Sonoma, CA 95476.
