G. W. Sparling Dead
From Saturday's Daily Times

Word was received in this city this morning announcing the death of Mr. G. W. Sparling, at his home at Whigville, Noble county. The deceased was formerly a resident of Liberty township, this county, and has many acquaintances and friends in this city.

He had serious trouble with one of his limbs and last winter it became necessary to amputate it. The injury never got well and was probably the cause of his death.

He was a man of much more than ordinary ability and was considerable of an orator, as those who have heard him in county conventions and before Justices can testify.

OBITUARY
George W. Sparling was born in Westmeath County, Ireland, Dec. 10, 1831, and died at Whigville, Noble County, April 21, 1899, aged 67 years 4 months and 11 days.
He came to the United States with his parents at the age of 17 and settled in the neighborhood of Whigville. He was married to Eliza Hewson in Columbus, nearly 46 years ago. As the fruit of this union there were born to them nine children, five of whom survive him. James and J. B. of Whigville, Mrs. M. E. Henderson of Pennsborough, W. Va., Mrs. M. A. Redfox of Cairo, W. Va., and Mrs. Anderson Moore of Wingett Run, Washington County, Ohio. Some months ago, he received an injury through being kicked by a horse. Evenually it was found necessary to have his limb amputated below the knee, this he bore with patience and fortitude, apparently, he seemed in the fair way to recovery. On the day of his deceased, at 5:30 p.m. he took supper with his family and was then wheeled on to the porch in his invalid carriage. At 6 p.m. he motioned to his family that he needed help. Kind and loving hands tenderly carried him to his bed, where quietly and peacefully his spirit passed to the better land. At the age of 14 he was confirmed and received into the Episcopal Church of Kilberry, Ireland.
Soon after settling at Whigville, he was converted and joined the M. E. church at Whigville, remaining a loyal member of the same to the time of his decease.
The funeral services were held at the M. E. church at Whigville, on Sabbath afternoon, April 23rd, conducted by his pastor, R. Davison, assisted by the Rev. P. H. Danford in the presence of a large congregation and sorrowing relatives and friends, after which the remains were interred in the cemetery by the side of his parents.
The bereaved widow and family have the sympathy and condolence of the entire community, I ut "they sorrow not as those without hope" looking forward to the general resurrection when they shall meet an unbroken.
