Double Rites Monday for Peoria Mother, Child Killed in Crash

Double funeral services for Mrs. Barbara Jean Hartman, 27, of 1706 S. Laramie Street, and her 8-year old daughter, Paula Gay Hartman, will be at 2:30 p.m. Monday at Gauss Memorial Chapel. The Rev. K. Richard Schliepstek of Christ Church will officiate. Burial will be in Lutheran Cemetery. Friends may call at the memorial chapel from 3 to 8 p.m. today. Memorial contributions may be sent to Christ Lutheran Church. The mother and daughter died about 6 p.m. Friday at Crawfordsville, IN as the result of injuries suffered in a two-car collision about 4:05 p.m. Friday on U.S. Route 136, about 10 miles west of Crawfordsville. They were en route to Danville, IN. Mrs. Hartman's 6-year old son, Mark, was also injured critically and now is in an Indianapolis, IN hospital for treatment of concussion and possible brain damage.

Mrs. Hartman was born in Peoria August 6, 1936, a daughter of Edgar H. and Violet Sutton Murphy and was married to Eugene Hartman in Peoria on Sept. 9, 1953. She last was employed at Hornsby's Variety Store where she was in charge of the toy department. She was a member of Christ Lutheran Church and the PTA of the church school. Surviving are her injured son, Mark Allen, her father, Edgar Murphy of Minneapolis, MN; her mother, Mrs. Violet Murphy of Peoria; and one brother, John E. Murphy, of Urbana, IL.

Paula Gay Hartman was born in Peoria on Aug. 29, 1955, a daughter of Eugene V. and Barbara Jean Murphy Hartman. She was to have entered fourth grade at Christ Lutheran School this fall and was a member of Christ Lutheran Church. Surviving are her father of Peoria, her brother, Mark; a step-brother, Eddie Murphy of Peoria; and her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Hartman of Peoria; Mrs. Violet Murphy of Peoria; and Edgar H. Murphy of Minneapolis, MN.
