Bessie Katherine (Miller) was born October 20, 1900 in Mondamin Township, Hand County, South Dakota, the daughter of Simon and Tony (Brothanek) Miller. She grew up and attended school in Mondamin Township.
On June 9, 1920, she married Charles W. Beranek, son of Frank and Rosalie (Skala) Beranek of Como Township, at the Stephan Mission, with Father Pius officiating.
Bessie and Charles lived on a farm south of Ree Heights until 1923, when they moved into Ree Heights. William died in 1980, and Bessie remained in Ree Heights until 1986, when she moved to the Miller Manor. In January 1998, she moved to Prairie Good Samaritan Center, where she died, Wednesday, May 6, 1998.
She is survied by two daughters, Ellen (Joe) Sparks of LaGrande, Oregon, and Betty Kopecky of Miller; two grandchildren, Terry (Deb) Kopecky of Miller, and Carol (Terry) Witte of Orient; five great-grandchildren, Stephanie and Bradley Kopecky, Brent and Tina Witte, Sheila Zolnowsky; two great-great-grandchildren, Nicholas and Alex Zolnowsky.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Charles, in 1980, son-in-law, Lamont Kopecky in 1978, and one sister, Mary.
Funeral Mass: Friday, May 8, 1998, St. Ann's Catholic Church in Miller, with Rev. Donald Molumby officiating.
Burial: Morningside Cemetery, Ree Heights, Hand Co., SD.
