Mr. Robinson loved and served his country proudly. He was a retired US ARMY artillery 1SG. He served many years as a drill SGT in Ft. Sill, Oklahoma and then in Ft. Polk, Louisiana. His tours of duty included Vietnam, Korea, and Germany. He was highly decorated as a soldier receiving numerous accolades including two Merritorious Service Awards and Combat Infantry Badge. He enjoyed and was often called upon to lead dignitary parades and call the cadance because of his erect stance while marching.

He was preceded in death by his son, SFC Christopher L. Robinson who was killed in action in Afghanistan in 2006; and his parents, Oliver and Lennie Robinson.

He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Mary Robinson; his daughter, Denise Schimmel of Madison; daughter-in-law, Tamara Robbins (Reese) of Brandon, and his grandchildren, his true pride and joy, Sullivan and Britton Bufkin of Madison, Patrick and Savannah Robinson of Brandon. He is also survived by his mother, Hazel Jones of Magee; and sisters, Patricia Blair (Billy), Theida Gibbons (Charles), Ellen Rea Blount (Sammy), Nancy Hall (Ray), Cheryl Grayson, all of Magee. Brothers Glendale Robinson of Magee and Gerald Robinson (Barbara) of Gautier; and many nieces and nephews that loved him as a father.

George will be remembered for the love that he so willingly and freely gave to his country, his friends, and most importantly, his family. The following Bible verse was sent in an email from a dear friend of Denise's as a description of the love George shared with those around him. She, like many of Chris and Denise's friends loved George like a father.

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. 1 Corinthians 13:4-7.

The family wishes to extend GREAT appreciation to the Jackson VA Medical Center, Providence Hospice, Dr. Edwin Swiatlo, Dr. Phillip Ley and his special dedicated caregivers, Annette, Amanda, Lisa and Otis.

Memorials can be made in his honor to The First Baptist Church of Madison or The Boy Scouts of America.
