LEONARD RITES TO BE IN SIOUX FALLS (from the Rapid City Daily Journal) ... George A. Leonard, long-time Sioux Falls resident, died at a local hospital Sunday night. The body is being returned by the Hobart Funeral Home to Sioux Falls for funeral services and burial....Leonard was born in Saybrook, Ohio, Nov. 2, 1864. He came to South Dakota in 1881, making his home in Sioux Falls. That same year he walked from Sioux Falls to Pierre, where he worked as a cowboy. He homesteaded near Bijou Hills in the late 1880s, then returned to Sioux Falls in 1888. He was married to Mabel Parker Jan. 3, 1894, at Chicago, Ill.... At Sioux Falls, Leonard was employed at the State Penitentiary for many years. He retired two and a half years ago. He lived in that town until April, when he came to Rapid City to make his home with his son, Earle.... Besides his son, he is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Nell J. Wakeman, Brookings; seven grandchildren, and ten great grandchildren.
