MISS ELLA CLARK EXPIRES IN OLD HOME SATURDAY
Miss Louella Clark, a lifelong and prominent resident of this city, died a 8 o'clock Saturday night in her home, 171 North Prairie street. She had resided for nearly 70 years there, in the old, historical family residence.
Miss Clark was born in Galesburg, and was educated in the public schools and Knox college. Her father, Merritt M. Clark, was a native of Manchester, Vt., who graduated from Knox in 1857 and practiced law here. Her mother, Celia Tinker Clark, also attended Knox in the early days.
When a young woman, Miss Clark was encouraged and trained in the insurance business by her father, and for over 50 years she was agent here for the Phoenix Assurance Co., Ltd. of London and of New York City. She was highly esteemed among the older business folk of the city, and Miss Clark had made many loyal friends in her work.
A prolonged illness brought out the patience and beauty of Miss Clark's character. In the nine years of her illness, she was never impatient nor complaining. Since July 6, she had been helpless in bed and in a state of coma most of the time, but frequently conscious of pain. She was unconscious nearly all day Saturday and died in the early evening.
Miss Clark was a member of the old First church, as were her mother and grandmother before her.
She is survived by four brothers, the Rev. Chester Clark of Kirkland, Wash., Charles T. Clark of this city, Jay C. Clark of Los Angeles, Calif., and Willis J. Clark of Wichita Falls, Tex.; one sister, Miss Alice Clark at home; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral rites will be held at 2:30 o'clock Tuesday afternoon from the Central Congregational church parlors, in charge of the Rev. John H. Westbrook, pastor. Burial will be in the family lot in Hope cemetery. Friends may call at the Foley mortuary from 7 to 9 o'clock tonight.
