Mary Ann Jones, 72, of Cross Plains, died Friday at an Abilene hospital.

Memorial services will be at 2:00 p.m. Sunday at the First Baptist Church in Cross Plains with Rev. Ronnie White and Rev. Kerry Mann officiating, under the direction of Bailey-Howard Funeral Home of Clyde.

Mrs. Jones was born January 7, 1937, in Topeka, Kansas, to Lawrence Everett and Mary Maxine (Losh) Mathey. She graduated from Berryton High School in Berryton, Kansas. She moved to Cross Plains from Florence, Texas, in 2003, and remarried George Richard Jones on January 16, 2007, in Cross Plains. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Cross Plains.

After moving to Teas in 1974, Mary worked as an administrative assistant for Valley Faucet and Delta Solvents and Chemical. She then worked full time helping her husband run their business, WesTX Dental. After selling their business and retiring, Mary's love for cooking led her to open her restaurant, Mary's Place, in Brownwood. She then cooked for Citizens National Bank in Brownwood, and later for the Cross Plains Senior Citizens Center. Mary's biggest enjoyment was cooking for family and friends. Two of her specialties, coconut cream pie and homemade egg noodles and chicken will be greatly missed.

Mary is survived by her husband, George, Richard Jones of Rising Star; four children, Albert R. Petrusky and wife Rebecca of Ponder, Stan A. Petrusky and wife Glenda of Clyde, Leisa R. Petrusky of Mesquite, and Steven W. Jones and wife Lauri of Ponder; five sisters, Margaret Ann Blackwell of Plattsmouth, Nebraska, Sarah Lou Salyer of Dinuba, California, Venita Marks of Phoenix, Arizona, Lorene Sandry of Davenport, Iowa, and Marsha Sue Gager of Prairie Grove, Arkansas; one brother, Galen Matney of Big Fork, Montana; 14 grandchildren; and 3 great-grandchildren.
