Obit in The Correctionville News, 5 June 1947, page 1: John C. Wallace, affectionately known by all as "Jack", settled here June 7, 1882. His wife, Mary Edwards, died October 29, 1945. She was a sister of the late Elijah Edwards, father of Lawrence and Clara Edwards. In 1893, the town council elected Jack night watch, and March 16, 1894, elected him town marshal. He was a strict law institution all by himself and effectively did his duty. He resigned in 1901 and the family moved to Dowie's Mecca at Zion, Illinois. John C. Wallace was born in Jackson Co., Iowa, February 16, 1851, and passed away at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Walter Edwards on South Sheridan Road on May 20, 1947, aged 96 years. He moved to Zion from Correctionville in 1901. He was married in Fairfield, Wisconsin, in 1877 and he and his wife celebrated their 68th anniversary in September 1945. Mr. Wallace was employed as police and night watchman by Zion Industries, Inc., from 1901 until 1924 when he went to work in the Zion Toy Factory. He retired in 1928, filling his days since by filing saws for friends, studying the Bible and corresponding with family. He was a member of the Christian Catholic Church. Survivors include six daughters, Mrs. Walter Edwards of Zion, Mrs. Earl Jones of Baroda, Michigan, Mrs. May Thompson of Chicago, Mrs. Verne Davis of Chicago, Mrs. Harry Barber of Phoenix, and Mrs. Fred Hanneman of Phoenix, two sons, Frank of Vero Beach, California, and Thomas of Sones Bar, California, and one brother, James Wallace of Beach, Illinois. He also has thirty-six grandchildren and forty-nine great grandchildren. He was preceded by his wife, six daughters and five sons, five brothers and five sisters. Funeral services were held from the Congdon Funeral Home on May 24 at 2:30 p.m. with Elder Theodore Mason officiating. Burial was made in Mount Olivet Cemetery.
