Funeral Rites Conducted For Early Settler at Wayne Church.
Funeral riets were conducted Tuesday afternoon from the Grace Lutheran church for John Krei, 84, who passed away at his home in Wayne Friday, December 2, after being ill for a number of weeks. Rev. Walter Brackensick and the Beckenhauer service were in charge. Burial followed in the Immanuel cemetey northeast of Wayne.
John Krei was born in Mecklenburg, Schwerin, Germany, January 10, 1854, and thus reached the age of 84 years, 10 months and 22 days. He came to America in 1870 and settled on a farm near Garnavillo, Ia. In 1887 Mr. Krei came to Nebraska to live on a farm four and a half miles northeast of Wayne. He lived there until 1912 when he moved to Wayne where he had lived since.
In 1874 Mr. Krei was married in Iowa to Minnie Breitsprecher. in Iowa to Minnie Breitsprecher. To this union were born nine children, one dying in infancy. The children living are Fred Krei of Alberta Minn., Mrs. Lena Herchet of Wayne, Miss Elizabeth Friedrich of Norfolk, Mrs. Annie Wingett of Walthill, John Krei of Sholes, Mrs. Emma Friedrich of Oral, S.D., Mrs. Mary White of Omaha, and Herman Krei of Worland, Wyo. Deceased's first wife died in 1893.
In 1989 Mr. Krei married Minnie Haack and six children were born to them. One died in infancy. A son, Edward Krei, of Belden, died in May, 1938. The living children are Louis Krei of Meadow Grove, Mrs. Amelia Anderson of San Francisco, Calif., Theodore Krei and walter Krei of Carroll.
Besides his children, Mr. Krei leaves one brother, Fred Krei of Laurel, who is 90 years old, 50 grandchildren and 40 great grandchildren.
All of the children except Herman of Worland, Wyo., and Mrs. Amelia Anderson of San Francisco, were here for the funeral services. About 110 relatives attended, including his brother Fred of Laurel.
