Permelia was the daughter of herbalist Samuel Parsons and Susannah Powers. She married John Monroe Goodwin on 7 Nov 1854 in Jefferson County, Alabama with the service performed by Justice of the Peace James Parsons. Their children included Leander Monroe (1859-1947) John (Bud) T. (1861-1948) Ruth Velma (1869-1965).
