Floyd Franklin Ward,67, a resident for 42 years and a native of Hanlin, Texas, died Feb. 2,1988 in Riverside.

A 1940 graduate of Lubbock High School in Texas, he played on the Westerners football team, known as the Cinderella Boys after they won the Texas State Championship in 1939. He attended Texas Tech for two years and was married to Jerry Conner in Clovis, N.M. on Nov 22, 1941. He studied insurance at Stanford University and Hartford Conn.

He served in the Army during WWII in 27th Infantry Medical Corps and was wounded on Okinawa.

He came to Yucaipa in April 1946 with his wife, Jerry, and daughter, Ginger. After working at the Bank of America in Redlands, he joined Kelley-Laycock in the escrow, loan, and real estate business. He established his own insurance agency in 1950, which he managed until his retirement due to his health on Jan. 1, 1983. He was also a building contractor and co-owner and officer of the Yucaipa Domestic Water Co., Yucaipa Investment Co., and was instrumental in the development of Yucaipa Valley.

He was a charter member of the Yucaipa Masonic Lodge, Kiwanis Club, Elks Lodge, and Yucaipa Valley Board of Realtors and was a member of the Yucaipa Valley Chapter Order of the Eastern Star and the American Legion.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Ginger Zaharis. Survivors are wife, Jerry; daughters, Paula Sidlow of Atlanta, Ga. and Conee Ward of Irvine; one brother; six sisters; and six grandchildren.

Services at the Yucaipa Masonic Temple, with interment at Desert Lawn Cemetery.
