1920-2004

William James Naylor, 83, passed from mortality January 22, 2004, in Salt Lake City, Utah, after patiently enduring multiple ailments.

He was born August 19, 1920, son of William E. and Emily James Naylor. He married Mildred Rose Kirk, daughter of Angus Cannon and Hazel Rose Kirk, in the Salt Lake Temple on August 12, 1943, and to them were born five children.

Bill attended Salt Lake schools, graduating from East High School. He went on to earn his bachelors and masters degrees in education from the University of Utah and served his community with devotion as a teacher and as a principal in various schools within the Granite School District. He filled a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to East Ontario Canada and Quebec and thereafter served faithfully in numerous church callings including a mission with his wife to the Manila Philippines Temple. Bill was an Army Military Policeman and made many lifelong friends while participating in the European Theater during World War II. His particular love was singing in his ward choir and he greatly admired and enjoyed the music of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. Other life enjoyments for Bill included traveling and also participating in a variety of sports. He was a loyal fan and supporter of BYU football and basketball teams. He served the community for many years as a member of the East Millcreek Lions Club. Association with his fellow Lions brought him great satisfaction. He enjoyed being with his friends and family and sharing his gentle nature and notable sense of humor with them.

Faithful husband, caring father, grandfather and great-grandfather, your family misses you!

Survived by his wife Mildred; sons and daughters: Bill Jr., Jerry (Mary Jo), Dan (Diane), Debbie (Cliff) Strong, Tauna (Randy) Isaac; 13 grandchildren; three great grandchildren. Those preceding Bill from mortality are his parents; sisters: Audrey and Evelyn; granddaughter: Andrea Strong.

Funeral services will be Monday, January 26, 2004, 11:00 a.m. at the Olympus Stake Center, 2700 East 4500 South, in Holladay, Utah. Viewing on Sunday, January 25, from 6-8 p.m. at Larkin Mortuary, 260 East South Temple and 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. prior to services at the stake center. Interment Salt Lake City Cemetery.

The family extends special thanks to the compassionate doctors and staff members of St. Mark's Hospital, VA Hospital, University of Utah Hospital, Huntsman Cancer Institute, Garden Terrace and Care Source.
