James William Scarbrough was born in Sien, Texas, December 13, 1868, and died of chronic Bright's disease at Kirwin, Kansas, August 12 1911, aged 42 years, 7 months and 29 days. His parents both died while he was quite young. On December 19, 1899, he was married to Miss Lou Gonterman of Eldon, Iowa. She together with five children, two girls and three boys, and an only sister, Mrs. Nancy Roark, survive him. This sister has been with him during the last days of his sickness. The family have made Kirwin their home for the past several years. Mr. Scarbrough working at his trade, that of carpenter, when he had work and running the secondhand store. He was a member of the Woodman Lodge and that order had charge of the funeral at the grave. Rev. Lucas of Agra, pastor of the Christian Church of Agra and this place, preached the funeral sermon which was conducted in the M. E. Church at this place.
When the Christian Church was organized here about a month ago, he united with it. The family have the sympathy of the community.
