Family History

On February 22, 1847, James Wilson Brower was born in Ottawa, Putnam County, Ohio. His parents were Hoadley and Lydia Crow Brower. He was the grandson of Mansfield and Carolyn Staley Brower.

James married Amanda Boor on April 18, 1872, at Continental, Putnam County, Ohio. Amanda was born in 1850 in Ohio and was the daughter and youngest child of Michael and Caroline Berentz Boor. Amanda was a school teacher in a school house 13 miles north of Agra. Her teacher's certificate expired on January 31, 1885. Amanda Brower died in August of 1931 in Glade, Kansas, and was buried in the Kirwin Cemetery, Kirwin, KS.

James Wilson Brower was a Civil War veteran. He was enrolled on June 15, 1863, and discharged March 4, 1864.

James and Amanda settled in Phillips County, Kansas, in 1884, movin from Ohio with their six children. The children are:

Rufus Keck was born in Defiance, Ohio, on February 4, 1873. He married Sadie Moorse. Rufus died on March 2, 1913, in Nebraska.

Joyce was born on August 11, 1874, in Defiance, Ohio. She married George Smith. Joyce died in November 1909 in Glade, Kansas.

Centennial Boor was born on June 14, 1876, in Defiance, Ohio. He was married twice. One marriage was to Mattie Wisehart and the other marriage was to Orpha Weaver. Centennial died on February 3, 1966, at Logan, KS.

Wright J. was born on July 8, 1878, at Defiance, Ohio. He married Octavia Platt. Wright died on September 6, 1924, at Glade, Kansas.

Michael Hoadley was born on October 11, 1883, in Eldon, Ohio. He married Edith Wisehart. Michael died on February 12, 1912, in Norton, Kansas.

Lydia Caroline was the twin of Michael and born on October 11, 1883, in Eldon, Ohio. She married John Rigg. Lydia died on May 7, 1972, in Norton, Kansas.


Additional Information
The grave marker for Michael Brower also has his wife, Edith, listed. However, it appears that she is not buried at this cemetery. On August 6, 1913, Edith Brower married John Kendall. He killed himself on March 31, 1922, and is buried at the Glade Cemetery. Edith Brower is buried in the Glade (Marvin) Cemetery with her second husband, John Kendall.


Michael Brower Dead
Michael Brower died at the home of his parents last Monday. The cause of his death was typhoid fever. The funeral has not been held as we go to press. The delay being occasioned by the fact that Wright Brower, one of the brothers, has been in Ohio and has not been able to reach here yet.

Michael Hoadley Brower was born at Edon, Ohio, October 11th, 1883, and died at the home of his parents at Kirwin, Kansas, February 12, 1912. Aged 28 years, 4 months, 1 day.

He was married to Miss Edith Wisehart March 22, 1906.

Of this union two children were born, Paul J. aged 3 years, and Octavia Pauline, aged 1 1/2 years. His wife, two children, father, mother, one sister and three brothers survive him. One sister, Mrs. Joyce Smith having preceded him to the better world November 22, 1910.

Mr. Brower and family had just returned from a visit to his brother, Rufus, at Rollwitz, Nebraska, and at his request he remained at the home of his parents during his sickness and death.

Before he died he made confession of his sins and professed conversion, and made restitution to everyone he had knowingly wronged.

The funeral was conducted Friday from the home by Rev. L. C. Cutler, and the interment was made in the Kirwin Cemetery.
