Robert, or Bob as he was known by many, was born in Safford, Arizona on May 28, 1931 to Richard and Euphrasia Foote Bingham minutes before his twin brother, Richard.
Bob went to school in the valley, graduating from Safford High School in 1950. Soon after his graduation, he joined the United States Navy along with his twin brother, Richard, and served in the Korean War.
After returning to Safford from the service he married Betty Jean Merrell on July 9, 1954 and raised four children.
Bob was employed at the railroad for three years, then after thirty-seven years of employment with Gila Candy and Tobacco Company, he retired.
Funeral services for Robert J. Bingham, or Bob as he was known by many, will be conducted Saturday, April 24th, at 11 a.m., at the Safford L.D.S. Twentieth Street Chapel by Brother Tim Taylor of the Safford Fifth Ward. Concluding services with military honors conferred by the Gila Valley Veteran's Honor Guard will follow in the Safford Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m., at Vining Funeral Home and Saturday morning from 10 a.m. until 10:45 a.m., at the Safford L.D.S. Twentieth Street Chapel Relief Society Room.
