Ardmore, OK — Graveside rites for Clarence E. Baker, 83, will be Wednesday, April 21, 2010, at 2 p.m. in Rose Hill Cemetery conducted by Rev. Phil Tallman, pastor of Mary Niblack Baptist Church. Harvey-Douglas Funeral Home and Crematory will direct services.
Clarence was born March 7, 1927, at Fox, Oklahoma, and had lived in Ardmore most of his life. He passed from this life Friday, April 16, 2010, at his Ardmore residence.
His mother, the former Sudie Aleen Jones Baker, and stepfather, Elmer LeRoy Baker preceded him in death.
During World War II Clarence served honorably as a Sergeant in the European Theater of Operations of the U.S. Army and was awarded the Army of Occupation Medal and the World War II Victory Medal.
Following his military service he and the former Leta Jo Wilson were married January 5, 1949, at Marietta, Oklahoma. Clarence was a faithful and loving husband to Leta Jo, the 'Love of His Life'. They were a very close couple, where you saw one you saw the other. He was a Godly man who took good care of his family and loved his two girls.
In his leisure time he enjoyed woodworking, watching all kinds of sports, especially OSU and OU, camping, family trips and reading his Bible. He could do anything he set his mind to, including rebuilding and racing cars, remodeling kitchens, repairing and building homes. He always told everyone that his wife, Leta Jo, "Jody" as he called her, was his #1 Helper.
He retired, after 40 years, from Lumbermen's Millwork & Supply Company of Ardmore where he began as a mill hand and later worked in the shipping office.
Survivors include his loving wife, Leta Jo Baker of the home; and two daughters, Leesa Baker of Ardmore and Tina Baker of Canada.
