Second Engineer John Henry (Harry) Hesketh
Died at his Post of Duty at Approx. 02:20 April 15th 1912 with the Sinking of the White Star Liner R.M.S. TITANIC
His Body rests with the Ship at Approx. 41*46'N Lat 50*14'W Lon. Atlantic Ocean 500 Miles from Newfoundland
Harry (As he liked to be called) was on duty at the time the Titanic struck the iceberg at 23:40 April 14th 1912 and was in boiler room No.5 as the water started rushing in. He remained at his post of duty until he and the other crew members were forced to abandon the boiler rooms as each one flooded in time. Harry was was last seen by a serviving crew member at Approx. 02:00AM trying to man handle a portable pump up a flight of stairs to the next deck after the Chief Engineer (Mr. Joseph Bell) had told them all "Up top lads save yourselfs" Harry waved off his men who were maning the portable pump and wished them all good luck.
That is the last any one saw of him and it is Presumed that he died there at his post trying to give the Titanic a few more moments of life.
His Body was never recovered so He now sleeps in the Deep with so many others of the Titanic's Brave crew who stayed at their posts to the very end all knowing they would never make it out in time.
This Man stood Firm and let the Weak go by, And Showed the World how a English man can Die.
The enclosed Photo of John. Harry Hesketh was taken some time around 1910 when he was a 2nd. Engineer with the White Star Line. The History of this Brave Officer was told to me by his Family who were kind enough to lend me the photos of this brave and almost forgotten officer of the Titanic.

Mr John Henry Hesketh, 33, was unmarried; he was born in Liverpool and lived with his parents in that city on Garnett Avenue, Kirkdale. He joined White Star as an engineer apprentice at the age of 14 years and commenced his seagoing career as Sixth Engineer aboard the Afric.Hesketh served aboard a number of the company's vessels and was involved in the salvage of the Seuvic following that ship's grounding. He had responsibility for the refrigeration machinery aboard the Majestic and was instrumental in improving the quality of the refrigerated cargo provision offered by White Star. He served aboard the Olympic before moving to the Titanic He was the youngest acting Second Engineer in the company.∼John was a second Engineer for the refrigeration unit on R.M.S Titanic, he died in the disaster his body was not recovered.
