SAFFORD—Funeral services for Max Curtis Layton, 43, a former Safford resident, who died Friday in Peyton, Colo., will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday in Layton Ward Chapel of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Bishop Spencer Brinkerhoff will officiate. Burial will be in Safford Cemetery.

Mr. Layton left Safford 12 years ago to ranch in Peyton. A native of Arizona} he attended Safford High School and Gila College, now Eastern Arizona Junior College, in Thatcher. He served in the army in Europe during World War II and also served on a two-year mission in the South for his church.

Mr. Layton is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Welton Layton; four sons, Joe, Clay, Gary, and Tim; a daughter, Roseann, all of Peyton; his mother, Mrs. Della C. Layton, of Safford; two brothers, Col. Charless B., of Alexandria, Va., and Russ, of Safford; and three sisters, Mrs. Virginia Swanson, of Tucson, Mrs. Mary M. Crockett, of Casa Grande, and Mrs. Myrna Chapman, of Ventura, Calif.
