Violet M Robbins passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 21 of natural causes. Violet was born June 3, 1932, in Superior to Lester and Fern Mckinnon. She had six siblings. As a child, Vi lived in Superior, Twin Bridges and finally Three Forks.
On July 28, 1950 she married Leo Robbins and they made their home in Manhattan where he was from. They were blessed with three children; Jim, Roger and Vianna. Vi was a caring mother and wonderful wife who loved her family. She helped Leo operate the Texaco gas station in Manhattan. She also drove a school bus route for many years. The kids on the bus loved her. Vi was also very involved with running Robbins Septic Tank Service. She really enjoyed talking to customers on the phone. No doubt people across the valley can remember having fun and interesting conversations when calling Vi.
She also had many other interests including being very involved in politics. Vi was instrumental in getting the railroad crossing safety arms and lights installed at the Manhattan crossing. She was a weather watcher for a local TV station. Having a deep Christian faith, she was a member of the Church of God in Manhattan. She enjoyed watching her two sons run in track meets and Leo and Vi also had a passion for drag racing. They raced professionally throughout the U.S., and she competed against the men and won her share. After the birth of her daughter and rolling her Pontiac at Michigan International Speedway, she retired from racing.
Vi was very artistic and spent time painting, had a beautiful singing voice and played the piano and organ. Vi was a wonderful woman with a glint in her eye and love in her heart. She will be deeply missed here on earth but is in a better place with God.
She is predeceased by her husband, Leo; parents; two brothers and one sister. She is survived by two brothers and one sister; sons, Jim (Lorna Huyser) of California, Roger (Joann Baker) of Great Falls; daughter Vianna (Frank Larrabaster) of Manhattan; grandchildren, Sarah (Tyler) Cotton of Idaho, Nick (Brandon) Robbins of Oregon, and Evan Larrabaster and Garrett Larrabaster both of Manhattan. Also surviving are great-grandchildren, Jaxon and Lexie Cotton and Adrian Larrabaster.
A graveside service will be held in the spring. Arrangements are in the care of Dokken-Nelson Funeral Service.
