Ensign L. C. Avery, USNRF, was designated Naval Aviator #864 in 1918. Following the World War he accepted a USN commission. Retired for medical reasons in 1934, with rank of Lieut. Commander.

He married Isabel Emma McLellan on June 30, 1936 in Pensacola, FL.

At time of passing survived by wife, as well as sons Lyman and Paul, and four grandchildren.

Mrs. Avery, in the mid-1960s: "To quote him, he 'Loved every minute of it.' Retiring at 36 was the worst blow of his life."
