Nora May Craig-Fankhauser of Independence, Kansas passed away Friday, March 19, 2004 at Via Christi St. Francis Campus, Wichita, Kansas.

Nora May was born February 7, 1916 in Cherokee, Kansas to Emma C. and Eddy P. Craig. She graduated from Cherokee High School in 1933 and Pittsburg State University in 1937, obtaining a Bachelor of Science degree in Education. Nora May held memberships in the Kappa Delta Pi, Sigma Tau Delta and Sigma Alpha Iota academic fraternities. She taught in the Kansas public schools during the next several years in Chetopa, Fulton, Westphalia and Kincaid. She married George W. Fankhauser on December 25, 1941. During WWII, Nora May worked as a recreation specialist at the Great Lakes Naval Training Center, Great Lakes, Illinois. After the war the couple returned to Kansas, living in El Dorado until 1965, when they moved to Independence.
She was a lifetime member of the United Methodist Church, the El Dorado Mother Singers, Eastern Star, and American Legion Auxiliary.

Nora May is survived by her husband, George W. Fankhauser of Independence, Kansas; two sons, Craig Fankhauser of Independence, Kansas and Mark Fankhauser of Gun Barrel City, Texas; three grandsons and great grandchildren.

Visitation hours for Nora May will be held Monday, March 22, 2004 from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. with the family greeting friends from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Webb & Rodrick Funeral Home.

Funeral services for Nora May Craig-Fankhauser will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 23, 2004 at the Webb & Rodrick Funeral Home Chapel with Reverends Jack and Marilyn Gregory of the First United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will follow at the Mount Hope Cemetery, Independence, Kansas.

The family has suggested memorial contributions to either the Cerebral Palsy Research Foundation of Kansas, the National Jewish Center for Immunology and Respiratory Medicine or the United Methodist Women of the First United Methodist Church. Memorials may be left with the funeral home.
