Phineas was the son of Perez and Lydia Rice. He married Hannah Cummins on March 23, 1743/4 in Sutton, MA. He resided at Hardwick, MA. He died sometime in 1777, as indicated in his son, Noah's, statement in his 1832 application for a Revolutionary War pension. The same document indicates that Phineas's oldest son, Nathaniel (b. Sept 18,1745) also died in 1777. Noah named his first son Nathaniel (b. 6/18/1784 in Barre). Noah's granddaughter indicated Noah's parents were Nathaniel and Hannah Rice. Therefore, I have indicated a nickname as shown above. This is thought to be the best way to reconcile the discrepancy and may be explained by the negative biblical reputation of the name Phineas.
