Elizabeth Bledsoe Brown, 94, passed away peacefully, Wednesday morning, April 14, 2010.

She was born on June 10, 1915, at home on 5th Street in Port Arthur to Dr. Murff Bledsoe and Ella Jackson Bledsoe.

The family later moved to the Gates House on Lakeshore Drive where she grew up. She was a 1933 graduate of Port Arthur High School. She received an AA degree from Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri and attended the University of Texas and Louisiana State University.

In 1938 she married Bernard P. Brown of Burleson and together they raised two children. She was a member of Delta Delta Delta sorority, the Service League of Port Arthur, the Wesley Class at the United Methodist Temple, the Tejas Garden Club and sat on the Port Arthur Historical Society Board.

Elizabeth loved deeply, forgave easily, and always thought the best of others. Her primary interest was people, especially her family and extended family, but she had a great affection for her friends, acquaintances, and even strangers that she met along the way. She knew and remembered most every detail about everyone she ever met.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bernard P. Brown; her daughter, Beth Brown Kost; her siblings, Murff Bledsoe, Jr. and his wife, Ludell Bledsoe, sisters Buella Floy Bledsoe and Cile Bledsoe Motheral; her cousin Thomas Hicks Jones; and her niece, Julie Mills.

She is survived by her son, Bernard P. Brown, Jr. and his wife, Carol of Port Arthur; grandchildren, Lauren Brown Linn and her husband, Jay of Houston, Michael Kost and his wife, Jennifer of Austin, Steven Kost of Rockford, Illinois and Elizabeth Carol Brown of Austin; great-grandchildren, Lillian Elizabeth Kost of Austin and Scotia Elizabeth Linn of Houston; her friend and caregiver Viney Johnson and Irma Stevenson and Inez Christopher.

She loved Port Arthur and gave her time and gifts to the Port Arthur Historical Society. Gifts to the Historical Society may be made in her memory.

Visitation will be held from 5-7pm, Friday evening, April 16, 2010 at Levingston Funeral Home in Groves, Texas. Services to be held at 10am, Saturday morning, April 17 also at Levingston Funeral Home with a graveside service to follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park.
