US ARMY - WORLD WAR II, KOREA - SERVED 20 Feb 1946 - 4 May 1946 and 27 Oct 1950 - 12 Mar 1953.

MILFORD and SULLIVAN - Charles A. Carpenter, 81, passed away April 14, 2010, at his Milford home. He was born July 28, 1928, in Brewer, the son of C. Paul and Marjorie (Doyle) Carpenter. Charles was raised by his grandmother, Mercy (Cummings) Carpenter, from a young age in North Sullivan. In his late teens, he traveled with Barnum and Bailey Circus throughout the U.S. He served in the U.S. Army twice and also in the Merchant Marine. Charles was a graduate of Beal College, Bangor. He was a cook by trade and worked at a number of resorts and locally, and was a member of Glad Tidings Church, Bangor.

Charles is survived by his wife of 51 years, Madeline (Grant) Carpenter; three daughters, Bridget Murphy and her partner, Joe Paganucci, Coleen and Brion Kane, and Beth and Winston Young; two sons, Kevin and Phany Carpenter, and Garret and Teresa Carpenter; his stepson, Stuart Grant and partner, Robin Gardner; four sisters, Janet Keough, Lynn Green, Cecile York and Katey Mackey; three brothers, William Carpenter, John de Garibody and Larry Carpenter; 11 grandchildren, Eric Murphy, Stephen Chase, Blake Marden, Corrie Marden, Kevin Wood, Maria Strout, Linda Smith, Valerie Burns, Brianne Young, Kristine Bishop and Michael Abbott; nine great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Charles was predeceased by his son, Sheldon Carpenter.

Graveside services will be held at Riverside Cemetery, Hancock. (Bangor Daily News 4/15/2010)
