She was the paternal grandchild of Robert Stanbury & Elizabeth Childs, originally from Woodbridge who removed to New York City; and gr-grandchild of Nathan & Prudence of Stanbury of Elizabethtown, NJ. She was a direct descendant of this family's patriarch, Josiah Stanborugh I of England (ca. 1600-1661), who first immigrated to Lynn, MA and later to Southhampton, LI, being one of the 40 who, with Rev. Abraham Pierson, first settled here. The family name evolved to Stanbury by the next generation. It was Josiah's grandson, Recompense Stanbury I, who first left Long Island to settle in Elizabethtown, NJ, and hence the descendants who are associated with New Jersey.
Eliza was 24 years old when she married David FitzRandolph of New Brunswick in 1814, also 24 years old, the up-and-coming editor of "The New Brunswick Fredonian", which operated from 1811 until 1854 in the Hub City.
The couple would become parents to 4 known children: Stephen Fitz Randolph (1814-1846), Lewis Fitz Randolph (1824-1855), Mary Mercein Fitz Randolph (1816-1905) and Emily Fitz Randolph (ca. 1817-bef 1858). Sadly, Eliza and David would bury 3 of their children before their own deaths. Daughter Mary, who never married, would outlive them all.
Eliza died January 10, 1863, less than a month before her 74th birthday. Her husband of 50 years survived her just 8 months, passing on August 28, 1863 at age 74.
