Civil War Veteran - Enlisted as a Private 7 January 1864 and mustered into Company B, 2nd Regiment, Iowa Infantry (Union).
Duty at Decatur till May 1864. Attached to 1st Brigade, 4th Division, 15th Army Corps to July 1865.
Battles, Skirmishes, and Engagements: Atlanta Campaign (May 1-September 8, 1864); Siege of Savannah (December 10-21, 1864); Campaign of the Carolinas January to April 1865); Battle of Bentonville, NC (March 20-21, 1865).
Surrender of Johnston and his army. March to Washington, D.C. via Richmond, VA, April 29-May 20. Participated in the Grand Review of the Armies of the Union on May 23–24, 1865. The Regiment moved to Louisville, KY, and mustered out 12 July 1865 at Louisville, Kentucky, and discharged at Davenport, Iowa, 20 July 1865.
Filed for Invalid Pension 19 August 1890 (Application #902138).
