Roy Lee Stephens, 79, of LaGrange, died of natural causes Monday morning, April 24, 1995, five miles southwest of LaGrange while turkey hunting. Born December 28, 1915, in Ewing, he was a son of Mark Alvin and Caroline Emaline Willows Stephens. He married Helen Hazel Ellison, August 10, 1940 in Canton. She survives. Mr. Stephens retired in 1977 after 40 years as a molder and foreman of the Gardner Denver Foundry in LaGrange. He was a 1932 graduate of Ewing High School in Ewing. He was a member of the LaGrange Lions Club, Missouri Conservation Commission, active in Boy Scouts of America for over 50 years, NRA life time member, had worked with the Civil Conservation Corps two years from 1934-35, and was a former City Alderman of LaGrange, and former Mayor of LaGrange. He was also a former president of the LaGrange Senior Housing, and was a member of the Dover Baptist Church near LaGrange. Survivors also include one son, William (Bill) Stephens of Columbia; one daughter, Carolyn Marshall of Circle Pines, Minn.; two grandsons; two granddaughters; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Cleo Stephens and James Stephens, and one sister Leta Fountain. Funeral services were conducted Thursday, April 27, at 10 a.m. in the Notre Dame Catholic Church in LaGrange by Rev. Dave Cox. Music was provided by Betty Bronestine and Chuck Downs. Pallbearers were Danny Logsdon, Jerry Logsdon, Larry Ellison, Kevin Ellison, Andrew Marshall and Matthew Marshall.
